The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has conducted an accreditation and resource verification exercise of at least 78 academic programmes at the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi.
During the visit, the 208 NBTE’s team assessed several old and new academic programmes, reviewing staffing, teaching material, and learning resources as part of its mandate to uphold institutional performance and ensure quality assurance standards.

Various team leaders presented their findings, highlighting the challenges facing the institution. Key among them were the need for enhanced staff development, an updated students’ handbook, access to current books and journals, and improved office facilities for staff.
Presenting findings for the Department of Mass Communication, Dr Kamal Jimoh of Kaduna Polytechnic recommended the establishment of a campus radio station and the installation of a solar power system to enhance students’ practical training.
Responding to the issues raised in the findings, the Rector, Alhaji Sani Usman, assured the NBTE delegation of the institution’s commitment to addressing the issues raised.
“We are almost done reviewing the students’ handbook. The delay is due to the increasing number of student infractions, especially those related to cybercrime, which were not previously addressed. We had to halt production to include these emerging concerns, particularly in examination administration,” he explained.

Alhaji Usman also acknowledged that while staff recruitment is a national challenge, Federal Polytechnic Bauchi is among the few institutions recently granted approval to employ new staff.
Representing the overall team leader of the NBTE delegation, Dr Fatima Kabir Umar, Builder Adesina Oluade urged the polytechnic’s management to act promptly on the recommendations provided.
In a vote of thanks, the Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance, Malam Usman Y. Dutse, expressed appreciation to the NBTE and all resource persons for their contributions and support throughout the exercise.
This is fantabulous!
